The recent student elections had on the ballot a question regarding convenient and effective access to the abortion pill (mifepristone and misoprostol) for students on the Urbana-Champaign campus. This is a medication that ends an early pregnancy. It can be used up to 77 days after the first day of a person’s last period.
Currently, there are multiple options to receive abortion pills close to campus. McKinley Health Center does not have the in-house expertise to manage pregnancy-related concerns or complications, including terminations. We refer them to our local clinics and hospital systems.
All University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students are required to have health insurance coverage that is compliant with the Affordable Care Act, which may cover a portion of the costs for the abortion pill. Check with your health insurance carrier to understand coverage.
