Intro
Allergy Injections
Body
McKinley Health Center is pleased to administer allergy injections to UIUC students who are under an immunotherapy regimen. Our goal is to continue a desensitization program for students who have started allergy injections with their allergist. McKinley Health Center accepts orders from Board Certified Allergists from the United States. Serum must also come from the United States. McKinley does not accept International serum or orders from providers outside of the US.
Allergy injections are given Monday through Friday from 9:15am - 3:45pm.
- Allergy injections are scheduled after the receipt of the allergy serum and allergist's order.
- Your first injection in the series must have been given in the allergist's office. (You must also receive your first allergy injection in the allergist's office if it has been more than a year since your last injection.)
- Avoid strenuous exercise 1 hour before and after your injections.
- It is important for you to inform the nurse if you have any current health problems or if you had any reactions to your previous injections.
- You are expected to remain in the clinic for a minimum of 30 minutes following your injection(s) and report any reactions that occur.
- Non-compliance with instructions given will result in the discontinuation of your allergy injections at the Health Center.
- McKinley does not administer injections unless one of our physicians or advanced practice providers is on site.
- McKinley adheres to the allergen immunotherapy practice parameters of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
- If you have a serious or anaphylactic reaction to your allergy injection, you will be asked to see and get your next injection from an allergist office before McKinley will administer any further injections.
- If you or your allergist have any questions regarding procedures for allergy injections, please contact the Immunization and Travel Clinic at 217-333-2700.
