Page 12: IUD (Intrauterine Device/System)An IUD is a long-acting form of birth control that provides continuous protection against pregnancy. IUDs are placed in the uterus and are greater than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. Fertility returns when the device is removed. IUDs can be easily inserted by your clinician during a routine office visit. Cost varies and is often covered by insurance. It is always recommended that you check with your insurance carrier before proceeding with an IUD system. McKinley Health Center offers three IUD systems: Skyla, Kyleena, and Mirena. After your body adjusts, the number of bleeding days is likely to decrease.
